Illinois’ nickname is “The Prairie State”, yet most of our original prairies have vanished. These legendary prairies have inspired artists, writers and play an important role in our history. Guest speaker Cindy Crosby, author of The Tallgrass Prairie: An Introduction and Tallgrass Conversations: In Search of the Prairie Spirit will tell stories of the tallgrass prairie, its amazing plants and creatures and how people have used prairie plants throughout history as medicine, food, and love charms. We will learn how we can be involved in protecting and preserving these fragile and vanishing places today.
