Selected Poems

Henrik Nordbrandt

A collection of poems from Danish poet Henrik Nordbrandt, translated into English by the author and Alexander Taylor.
About the Author

Henrik Nordbrandt is a Danish poet, novelist and essayist. He made his literary debut in 1966 with the poetry collection Digte. He was awarded the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 2000 for the poetry collection Drømmebroer ("Dream Bridges"). Although he is Danish by nationality, he has spent much of his life in the Mediterranean, which largely influences his writing.

Alexander Taylor has translated numerous Danish writers, including Benny Andersen, Klaus Rifbjerg, and Ole Sarvig.

"Every poem that Henrik Nordbrandt has written bears, as in all the works of great masters, his unmistakable signature: the definitive unity of motif and style." —Bettina Heltberg, Nye Boger

"Cargoes of surprise, landfalls with the immediacy of music." —ALA Booklist

"This unusually close collaboration between poet and translator has resulted in a remarkable book of unusual clarity, unusual poetry. One does not need to know Danish to recognize a first-rate talent." —Victor Contoski, New Letters

"There's a classical, sunlit clarity and consistency throughout the book." —George Butterick, Scandinavian Review

"No one has ever quite so perfectly captured the tug of forces which move intelligent people when they love." —John Benson
