My Kind of 'Toon, Chicago Is

Political Cartoons

An institution at the Chicago Sun-Times, his home paper for more than twenty–five years, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Jack Higgins gathers for the first time in My Kind of Toon (Chicago Is) approximately 250 editorial and political cartoons. Over the years, he has filed syndicated cartoons from the Soviet Union, Hungary, Ireland, and Cuba. From his front-row seat he has lately focused on the highs and lows of the Chicago and Illinois politics that produced both the first African American president and a string of corrupt gubernatorial administrations.

About the Author

Jack Higgins is a Chicago-based political cartoonist whose work appears in publications worldwide. In 1989, he won a Pulitzer Prize, and he has won many other awards. He began his career drawing cartoons for the Daily Northwestern. He has been interviewed on the Today show, NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, Good Morning America, and CNN. A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, Massachusetts), he was recently honored with the school’s Sanctae Crucis Award.

"Editorial cartoonists, like film critics and indeed editors, are an endangered species in these days of the Internet tsunami against the printed press. I am proud that my paper continues to be the home of one of the greatest. Jack is a Pulitzer Prize winner in a proud tradition at the Sun-Times, where both Jacob Burck and Bill Mauldin won the prize before him, and John Fischetti won it at our sister newspaper, the Chicago Daily News. This book shows why he so richly deserves it." —Roger Ebert, from the foreward
