Forms of Prayer at the Hotel Edison

Poems by Kevin Bowen
Kevin Bowen

These are poems of leave taking and of return, poems that record the experience of rural and urban isolation, of dislocation and violence, the histories of war and reconciliation in our century.
About the Author

Kevin Bowen currently serves as Director of the William Joiner Center for the Study of War and Social Consequences at UMass-Boston. The Progressive magazine chose Bowen's first book, Playing Basketball with the Viet Con, as "Pick of the Year." He lives in Dorchester, MA with his wife and two children.

"...First-rated collection...heavily weighted with poems reflecting his service as a U.S. Army draftee in Vietnam in 1968-69..." — The VVA Veteran

"...marked by beautiful imagery...full of strong images and touching scenes." — Socialist Worker

"This wonderful book of poems is made up of Kevin Bowen's love of the people and landscapes of Vietnam, Ireland, and home. His voice, his language is true and there's a strong music from those far countries as well as ours that has been singing in his ear—and now in ours." —Grace Paley
