Staff Update: Introducing NUP’s New Acquisitions Manager Faith Wilson Stein

Northwestern University Press is pleased to announce that Faith Wilson Stein has been promoted to Acquisitions Manager, in addition to her position as Senior Editor for Scholarly Titles, effective September 1, 2024. In her new role, Stein oversees the Acquisitions Department, which directs the press’s scholarly and trade lists, including lauded trade imprints TriQuarterly and Curbstone Books, and joins NUP’s executive team.

Since joining the press in 2021, Stein has managed NUP’s influential scholarly list, including series like Studies in Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, FlashPoints, and Superimpositions: Philosophy and the Moving Image. She has also overseen nonseries projects in literary studies, theater and performance studies, critical ethnic studies, and select translations, as well as crossover and trade titles. Stein draws from over a decade of experience in publishing, including roles at Stanford University Press and Slavic Review, to bring boundary-pushing books into the world. She holds a PhD in comparative literature with a focus in English, Russian, and French from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

“Joining the press at a crucial time of transition and growth, Faith’s thoughtful editorial leadership has given a wider breadth and accessibility for the acquisitions team,” says Parneshia Jones, director of Northwestern University Press. “Her immense bandwidth as a curator in the humanities and cross-department advocate will no doubt take the NUP publishing vision to new and exciting levels in excellence.”

“Northwestern University Press’s catalog played a formative role in my development as a reader and a scholar, long before I imagined a career in publishing,” adds Stein. “It’s been deeply gratifying to contribute to the Acquisitions Department and the press as a whole, and I am eager to use this opportunity to further support my colleagues as we build on the press’s formidable legacy and reach new and ever-expanding readerships.”
