MARINA TSVETAEVA (1892–1941) was a Russian poet whose lived through the most turbulent years of Russian history. Her father was a professor and founder of the Museum of Fine Arts and her mother a concert pianist. Tsvetaeva published her first collection of poems, Evening Album, at 18. During her lifetime she wrote poems, verse plays, and prose pieces; she is considered one of the most renowned poets of 20th-century Russia. Her other works include Milestones, published in 2002 by Northwestern University Press.
