Fist of Sun

Ferruccio Brugnaro was born in Mestre, Italy in 1936. He worked for more than 30 years - most of his adult life - in the giant complex of chemical factories in the Porto Marghera district of Venice. By turns tender, loving, angry, satiric, these are passionate poems that grab you by the collar by Italy's best-known working-class poet - skillfully crafted, clear, and filled with powerful images.

Reviews

"Earthy, direct and bone-deep honest, Ferruccio Brugnaro's poetry lays to rest any fear that communim or proletarian culture is dead. Jack Hirschman's translations preserve the author's rebellious fighting spirit."

—Nelson Peery, author of Black Fire

"Ferruccio Brugnaro speaks in a language immediately recognizable to those who participate in the class struggle on the side of the working class."

—Robert Irminger, deck hand, union activist, defendent in the "Neptune Jade" trial.
